The official coalition between the Nacionalista Party (NP) headed by Sen. Manny Villar and the formidable Partido Magdalo of Cavite today, participated in by over 300 leaders, including 13 incumbent mayors, clad in orange shirts, appeared like NP’s convention.
Led by Cavite Cong. Boying Remulla, former Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino spokesman, and gubernatorial candidate Jonvic Remulla, the three-decade-old Partido Magdalo expressed overwhelming support to Villar for the 2010 presidential elections.
“We deem Senator Villar as the sole unifying factor whose leadership can reach out to various sectors in a bid to propel the country to higher ground,” Congressman Remulla said during the event program.
Villar responded, “As two of the country’s oldest political parties coalesce, our fight against poverty, reminiscent of our forefathers’ struggle for independence, has intensified. The support from Partido Magdalo empowers our drive against hunger in the country.”
Partido Magdalo has the reputation of delivering considerable number of votes for presidential candidates they supported in the past.
Villar administered the NP oath to the more than 300 Caviteño leaders including 13 out of the 23 incumbent mayors in the well-attended rites held at the historic Laurel House in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City.
